It has been reported that Sean Paul’s ex-girlfriend has filed a US $80 million dollar lawsuit against the Jamaican reggae artist and is also coming out with a tell all book. What however turns out to be a copyright infringement is the fact that Ms. Persson (Sean Paul ex) has titled this book “Irie Jamboree” Now, Irie Jamboree is the registered trademark name for Irie Jam Media’s concert series, normally held on the Sunday before Labor Day in Roy Wilkins Park, Queens New York.
My question is, didn’t Ms. Persson do her research? Did she know she was infringing on someone’s copyright or was she just so pissed at the Dutty Rock superstar that she didn’t bother to do her due diligence? With this there could be a lawsuit filed against Ms. Persson by Irie Jam. Talk about a double edge sword. In an age when information is so easily researchable one should always do their due diligence to avoid undue headaches of this nature. We will wait to see what this ensuing result coughs up.
I encourage you all to protect your rights by registering your works with the Library of Congress and USPTO. Or if it’s too much work for you I’ll do it for you. (Of course there is a fee)
